SPECIAL EDITION NEWSLETTER
Par Tee Girls Annual Meeting 2005

Welcome to this special edition newsletter covering the 2005 Par Tee Girls Annual Meeting we had on Sunday, October 23rd. Thanks to all those who came.. and here's everything we discussed for those who missed out!

  1. Introductions
    • Total of 11 of us at the meeting, including several new members - yay! Top Row: Mary, Katie, Spider, Lana, Cheryl, Lynne. Middle: Susan, Sunhi. Bottom: Maria, Sandra, Kathleen, Jenny. Oh - and Tom Huster (guest) who took the picture makes 12!

  2. 2005 Summary and Recap
I wanted to take this opportunity to recap the year - looking at what we've done, and our accomplishments against the goals I set forth in the beginning of the year.

    • We had a terrific Kickoff Luncheon at Delancey Restaurant in February, 7 total tournaments, and 2 total clinics (one short, one long)
    • We had our first raffle event that raised almost $700!
    • A total of 17 birdies were made this year by members - yay! Check out the birdie tree on the website!

In terms of the goals we set forth for the year...
    • Increase Communication - We updated the website this year, and developed a new newsletter format that is now sent regularly to the membership.
    • Increase Membership by 20% - We started with 28 members at the beginning of the year, and added 14 new members this year! That's an increase of almost 50%, with almost a third of our group being new members.
    • Increase Participation - We had a full group of players out at every tournament this year. In fact, we had to add groups for several of our tourneys this year. And our turnout at Blue Rock Springs was our biggest ever - 35 players showed up!

  3. Treasurer's Report
    • Income - We are solvent! We have a good balance in the bank. Our income at this time comes only from the additional fees for guests, the raffles that we have, and the commissions that we earn from purchases through our website.
    • Expenses - We need to keep a good balance so that we have enough each year to cover the deposits required to secure tournament dates for the following year. We also have expenses tied to the tournament goody bags and other member gifts that we get - golf towels, logo balls, etc.

  4. Handicap Chair's Report
    • Rules Clinic? Kathy wanted to know whether the members would be interested in another Rules Clinic, and we all pretty much agreed that a Rules Clinic is great to have each year, particularly for all new members to attend.
    • Renew Your Membership! As of today, we've gotten renewals from 25 members. If you plan to renew, please send your $90 check to Kathy Lemon! Deadline is end of November!
    • New Rule! Previously, the rule in tournament play is that everyone must play through every single hole and count every stroke. However, there have been some concerns raised by the slow play that some groups are experiencing. We all recognize that people may have bad holes.. or just bad days in general. In order to speed up play and more importantly, to make sure that everyone is having a good time, we are going to allow members to pick up their balls after 10 strokes. The member would no longer be eligible for any low net/putts prizes, but would still be eligible for any other prizes - longest drive, closest to the pin, etc. So if you're getting frustrated after 10 strokes on a bad hole - don't worry about it - pick up and start over on the next hole!

  6. 2006 Officers
Thanks to everyone who submitted nominations! Some of you may be wondering we have not had an official "voting". After all the nominations were collected, we asked all nominees if they wanted to accept the nomination. At the end of the process, we had one nominee per position - so we decided to forgo the voting formality. Congratulations to the new officers, and we do appreciate the time that they've volunteered to support the organization.

    • President - Cheryl Ho
    • Vice President - Elisabeth Marty
    • Secretary - Mary Bordeaux
    • Treasurer - Kathleen Fong
    • Handicap Chair - Kathy Lemon
    • Tournament Co-Chairs - Edith Lee and Maria Espiritu
    • Social Events Chair - Lana Yagle
    • Historian - Kathy Cruse
    • Raffle Chair - Julie Fong (see #7 below)

  7. Feedback, Suggestions, Ideas, and More
Lots of great ideas came from the group that we'll be implementing in 2006.

    • Membership Drive - Relaunch a membership drive to encourage and members to refer new members, and to reward those who refer the greatest number of new members. Thanks to Kathleen F. for this suggestion!
    • $10 Tournament Organizer Credit - In an effort to encourage members to get involved by being responsible for managing a specific tournament, and to offer them something for their time, we will be giving a $10 credit on tournament fees to each member who volunteers for this role for each tournament date. Up to 2 organizers per event. Thanks to Jenny A. for this suggestion!
    • Group Placement for Guests - In an effort to encourage greater networking and socializing among members, place guests in the latter groups going out. That way, members get finished first and have time to socialize while waiting for the last groups to come in. Thanks to Tom H. for this suggestion!
    • Officer Appreciation - Club officers contribute a lot of time to keep the organization running, and don't get compensated in any way. One tournament each year will be an Officer Appreciation tourney, where a small extra fee will be added to the tourney price that will go towards a special luncheon for the officers. Thanks to Jenny A. for this suggestion!
    • New Raffle Chair Position - The raffle was such a success that we want to continue it each year. A new Raffle Chairperson role was brought up. Since Julie F. did such a great job with it this year, and since she wasn't at the meeting.. she was nominated and seconded for the position! :-) Thanks Julie for agreeing to do this next year.. and thanks to Maria for suggesting this new role for the group!

  8. Drawing for Door Prizes!
Unfortunately, we weren't able to arrange a cooking demo this year like we did last year - so I had some door prizes to hand out. Winners walked away with a puppy dog headcover, golf themed playing cards, brush tees, golf ball shaped stapler, and other fun stuff!
Look forward to more details about our upcoming Holiday Party soon! And as always, I welcome any feedback, suggestions, and/or ideas - this organization was created for all of you, so please feel free to email me at cher234@yahoo.com.

All the best,
Cheryl Ho
