MONTHLY NEWSLETTER
March/April 2005

We had a full turnout at our annual kick-off social held on February 27th. It's been a while since we had our last event, and it was great to see so many familiar and new faces! Members and guests chowed down on yummy food while catching up with each other. I eavesdropped on a few conversations.. and guess what everyone was talking about - golf! Click here to view pictures from the event. Thank you Camilia for organizing a wonderful event!
And alas, our first golf tournament of the year at Paradise Valley Golf Course was rained out! A few very optimistic souls, including Barbara, Chrissy, Kathy, and Julie, drove over an hour to the course - with raining coming down the entire way! As the tee time approached, the rain just got harder. Disappointed, most of went home, although I heard that a few people did get out later in the morning.
So the first tournament was officially cancelled, and all who sent in checks will be getting a refund. If you are signing up for the upcoming tournament in Dublin, feel free to apply any payments you had made for Paradise Valley.
Meanwhile, if you haven't been on the course in a while like myself, take advantage of the swing clinic this coming Saturday. If you haven't signed up yet and still want to come, please let me know.. we still have spots and can squeeze you in!
Of course, don't forget our upcoming events - April 10th at Dublin Ranch Golf Course and April 30th at Shoreline Golf Links in Mountain View. Check the website for RSVP and cost information.
And as always, I welcome any feedback, suggestions, and/or ideas - this organization was created for all of you, so please feel free to email me at cheryl@linkshare.com.
All the best,
Cheryl Ho
2005 PTG President
P.S. I forgot to mention that we handed out new, official Par Tee Girls golf towels to all members at the kick-off party. If you are a member and haven't gotten a towel yet, look for me at the next event, and I'll make sure you get yours!

Tournament Rules and Etiquette
As we head into another golf season and anticipate our first tournament of the year - I just wanted to share a few rule reminders from our Handicap Chair, Kathy Lemon.
- No Mulligans.
- Putt everything out.
- Count every stroke.
- It is a good idea to use an indelible pen to put an identifying mark
on your ball. If you inadvertently hit the wrong ball, you incur a 2
stroke penalty.
- Fourteen clubs is the maximum allowed.
- You are not allowed to ask for advice or to give advice.
- Once on the green, beware of the other players' putting lines;
stepping on another's line could affect their putt.
- When marking the ball on the green, the object is to be able to
replace your ball to the same location. The proper way to do that is to
place your mark directly behind your ball. Some players try to get the
mark right under where the ball lies. Then it is nearly impossible to
replace the ball on top of the mark and remove the mark without
disturbing the ball.
- If another player asks you to mark your ball to the side so that it
won't interfere with their intended line of putt, the proper method is
to first mark your ball where it lies, then move the mark. And when you
replace the ball, first move the mark back, and then place your ball.
- When putting, if your putt is not holed out, you have the option to
continue putting even if you no longer are furthest out. It is a good
idea to announce your intention to continue putting or to wait.
- Dropping the ball:
If the situation calls for you to "drop" the ball, the correct way to
drop is to hold the ball shoulder-high with the arm extended and drop
the ball. You are not allowed to re-drop just because you don't like
where the ball lands (like if it lands in a divot).
- General rule to remember:
If you get "free" relief (like from cart path or drainage ditch), you
are allowed to drop within ONE club-length of your nearest point of
relief. If you must take a "penalty" drop (like from a hazard), you are
allowed to drop within 2 club-lengths.
- Have fun!!!!!
